CCAD, Museum of Art Fund-raising Campaigns Receive Significant Contributions From Motorists Insurance

(Dec. 20, 2007) The Motorists Insurance Group will donate $300,000 to two Discovery District arts-related organizations’ development campaigns.

The Columbus Museum of Art will receive a $200,000 donation to its 2007 Endowment and Capital Campaign.  The Columbus College of Art and Design will receive $100,000 for its 2007 Creative Drive Comprehensive Campaign.

“These are more than just donations to two outstanding, deserving institutions,” said John J. Bishop, chairman, president and CEO.  “These monetary gifts are investments in the Discovery District and the city of Columbus.”

Bishop added, “There are many exciting things happening in the Discovery District that will benefit all Central Ohioans.  For example, the district will host the Columbus Arts Festival for several years beginning in 2008, and this will expose thousands of people to this center of learning, culture, history, medical care and business in Columbus.”

“Thank you to Motorists Insurance for being there when we needed you most," said Columbus Museum of Art Executive Director Nannette V. Maciejunes. "The Museum is thrilled and honored that Motorists has declared that Art Matters.  CMA belongs to everyone in the community and it is especially meaningful to have the support of our neighbors."

“We are thrilled about Motorists’ very generous contribution to CCAD. This investment in the Discovery District and downtown Columbus revitalization directly helps us convert the former Byers auto dealership into a multifaceted art and design creative space and breathe new life into a significant structure on East Broad Street just two blocks west of Motorists corporate headquarters.  CCAD is very fortunate to have such caring neighbors.”

Motorists has made other significant contributions to the development and betterment of the area.  It provided funds to help develop the Old Deaf School Park, create the Topiary Garden in the park and fund the Gatehouse building at the park entrance.  Charles Wickert, a Motorists senior vice president, is also chairman of the Special Improvements District and past president of the Discovery District Development Corporation.
